Child & Adolescent Individual Therapy

At Sydney Psych Hub, we provide supportive and evidence-based therapy for children and adolescents to help them navigate life’s challenges, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills.

We understand that growing up can be complex, and young people often need extra support to manage their emotions, relationships, and mental health.

What is Child and Adolescent Individual Therapy?

Our skilled therapists work closely with both the young individual and their parents or caregivers, tailoring the level of involvement to the specific needs of the situation. This collaborative approach fosters effective communication, helps parents better understand their child’s challenges, and equips them with tools to provide the necessary support.

Individual therapy offers a safe and supportive space for young people to explore their thoughts and feelings with a trained psychologist. Sessions are tailored to the child or adolescent’s developmental stage and unique needs.

Therapy may involve talking, creative expression, play-based activities, or skill-building exercises to help them:

  • Make sense of their emotions
  • Strengthen coping strategies
  • Improve communication and relationships
  • Develop confidence and resilience

Our Approach

We believe therapy for children and adolescents should feel engaging, safe, and supportive. Our psychologists provide care that is:

Child-centred & compassionate – creating a safe space where young people feel understood and valued
Evidence-based – using approaches like CBT, ACT, DBT-informed strategies, play-based therapy, and family-based therapy
Individualised – tailoring therapy to the child’s age, developmental needs, and goals
Collaborative – working together with families, schools, and other supports to promote positive outcomes

Treatment may include:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT): building practical coping skills to manage worries, low mood, or unhelpful thinking patterns
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): supporting young people to build resilience, values-based choices, and emotional flexibility

  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed strategies: developing skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness

  • Play-based and creative therapies: using play, art, or storytelling to help younger children express and process emotions

  • Social skills training: building confidence in friendships, communication, and problem-solving

  • Parent support and coaching: providing strategies to strengthen relationships, set boundaries, and support emotional wellbeing at home

  • Trauma-informed approaches: offering safe, gradual support for children who have experienced distressing events
